Olivier Van Herstraeten
Olivier Van Herstraeten is a partner at the law firm VANDERSTAPPEN ROBERT.
Previously, he had been working in international law firms (Allen & Overy (ex Loef Claes Verbeke), Fieldfisher) and he had held various positions as a member of the Exco and General Counsel for multinational groups in the retail (GB-INNO-BM), banking & insurance (Dexia Group) and Defense (FN-BROWNING) sectors.
He is specialised in corporate law, compliance and dispute resolution.
He has strong expertise in corporate governance, legal risk management (legal risk mapping, AML and other internal policies, whistleblowing…), corporate restructuring/crisis management, director’s liability and shareholders agreement & conflicts.
Olivier Van Herstraeten has acquired in-depth and hands-on experience advising Boards and Executive committees within companies facing distress or undergoing complex restructuring and transforming processes, including contacts with medias and supervisory authorities. He has also held several board positions (Exki) and carried interim management assignments.
He is consular judge at the Brussels commercial court and he was member of the Board of the Institute of Belgian (in-house) lawyers (2015-2017)
He graduated from Université Libre de Bruxelles (LLM Economic Law, 1988, magna cum laude), ICHEC (Master in Taxation, 1987, magna cum laude) and Université Catholique de Louvain (Master in Law, 1986, magna cum laude).
Olivier Van Herstraeten was, between 1993 and 2005, lecturer and teaching assistant for the tax seminars (UCL) and introduction to tax (ICHEC-ESSF).
Olivier Van Herstraeten also appears in the press, in the context of its defence of certain cases.
